Dear Stefanos,It's four in the morning and I can't sleep and all the images in your paintings are churning around in my head. It was extraordinary to stand in the studio and see the paintings for real - the grandeur of them, with all their congested details and terryfying blank spaces. I feel connected to the essence of them. I feel they are very close to the way I write lyrics - intense bursts of memory, ecstatic detail, sudden erotics, esoteric imagery; the forging of frozen narratives that hover about like dreams, haunted and strange and life-affirming. And it seems that our own particular life force and radiance is all we can lay claim to and that it is our spiritual quest to express this force in as authentic and unique a way as possible. It is an urgent enterprise, of which you seem deeply immersed. Your paintings seem absolutely your own, I've not seen anything like them, and they remain in the a long time after viewing them. It was a privilege to see them in your studio and be a part of your beautiful book.It was also wonderful to sit down with you yet again and eat octopus and drink sweet coffee and listen to the continuing Greek hero poem of your tortured love life. May it forever continue!
