The earliest Gothic art dates back to mid-12th cetury Frace, from which it spread throughout Wester Europe through the 15th cetury. Predomiatly religious, Gothic art was dark ad emotioal, marked by itesity ad logical formalism. The later Gothic period, kow as the Iteratioal Style, was a precursor to the Reaissace.
